Grandpa, Grandma and Uncle Emmett
Chaleya August Seebart, Louisa (Louise) Seebart and Emmett Seebart are
all three buried in the same lot in the Holmes Cemetery for the Evangelical
United Brethren Church North Dakota--Located about twenty two miles
southwest of Emerado, North Dakota--going by way of south on County Highway
Number 3 twelve miles and about five miles east on State Highway Number
15--thence five miles south to the church from the old Ben Hall Place.
Theodore Wesley now lives on the Hall Place. The buildings are close to
the south side of Highway 15. The house has been moved to a more easterly
location. The Spafford place, or old Fred Seebart place in about one and a
half mile northwest of the Hall place and is owned and operated by a Mrs. Griese.
These are the notes taken after George Herbert Seebart and myself visited the
Holmes German Evangelical United Brethren Church in the early fall of 1958,
by E.A.S.
Charleya August Seebart
The name Seebart is no doubt a corruption of the proper name: according to Uncle
Fred Seebart the spelling was changed as suggested by Uncle Will Seebart while
the family lived on the Spafford farm and after Grandfather passed away.
Grandfather's monument was evidently placed some time after the family had
moved to the Spafford farm from the Ben Hall farm.
In the early days the Holmes church was called the German Church--most likely
it was given the new name when the new church was built. The Cemetery was
called the Holmes Cemetery.
