Seebart Family History

Maternal Roots of the Family Tree

Courtship and Marriage of Christian and Henrietta Weier
Christian took as his bride, Henrietta Zebart, who, apparently, was younger than himself. At the time of this writing, the date of her birth has not been established. However, putting two and two together it seems safe to assume that she was four or five years younger than Christian Weier, which would make her year of birth 1820 or 1821. Since Henrietta died when my mother, Ella Henrietta, was but eleven years of age, the year of her demise must have been 1867, and she would have been about 47 years of age at that time.

Map of Posen Detail from the map of the German Confederation (1815 -1866). Berlin lies approximately 100 miles to the west of Poznan. This era was a time of significant upheaval in German History. The Posen province was aquired by Poland in 1848—another potential reason for the family's move to America.

At the time of her death, the Bauer-Weier Private Cemetery, referred to later in this manuscript in some detail, was not in existence. She was probably buried in the Lutheran Church Cemetery at West Lake; since a German Evangelical Church Cemetery was not established in the community at that time. Ella Henrietta told me that several of her New York relatives were buried in the Lutheran Cemetery for the above reasons. Apparently there was no durable marker placed at her grave, and government records of that time left much to be desired.
